It’s been three years since our last trip to Fiji. A lot has happened since the summer of 2008. Back then, Tina Fey hadn’t even heard of Sarah Palin and a bailout was what you did in a leaky canoe. Only old ladies twittered. Lady GaGa was barely Lady GooGoo. I think she had like 16 Facebook friends.
Certain issues in 2009 prevented our next trip. And in 2010…hmmm, we were entirely too fixated by those darned Chilean Miners…..
But now it’s 2011. We have very little distractions this year. The Rapture was a bust, and there’s a new sign in the Zodiac, but it’s a name no one can pronounce. Fiji is getting all our attention now, and we have stimulating new lessons planned. We’re fueled by the promise of making new friends and seeing old ones. We’re dreaming of kava and coconuts. Of diving in rainbow reefs under the rainbow sunsets. We have two weeks to go. The trip I thought would never get here is suddenly becoming reality.
